Abstract
Immediate mandibular reconstruction is a useful method for early functional and cosmetic restoration of mandibular defect patients who had mandibulectomy for benign and malignant tumors.
Twenty-six cases of immediate mandibular recostruction were reviewed.
Comparison was done between nineteen patients who had reconstruction with A-O reconstruction plate only and seven patients who had reconstruction with iliac bone graft.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. Significant difference in the complication rate was not found between benign and malignant tumor patient groups, but limitation of mouth opening was more frequent in malignant tumor patients.
Immediate reconstruction with a A-O plate only had a low complication rate, proper rigidity and favorable functional result.
Immediate reconstruction with bone graft resulted in the higher failure rate than the reconstruction with only A-O plate, and the removal rate of grafted bone following wound infection was high.
Immediate reconstruction of the anterior mandible had higher complication and failure rate.
Final prosthodontic restoration rate was low and significant differnece was not found between reconstruction with only a plate and reconstruction with bone graft in final prosthodontic restoration rate.
